Well, that was interesting...
I'm not sure what was more surprising, OSU getting hammered or...wait, who am I kidding? How embarrassing! This was one of only a couple of games I got to watch this weekend and all I can say is Ryan Day lost the Buckeyes that game. I had a feeling this might happen when he took the field goal in the first quarter. You'd think he'd have learned.
I gotta say, I do love chaotic weekends in CFB!
- Spencer Rattler for Heisman!
- Beavers with a wild comeback against the Ducks!
- A&M stomping LSU
- Wolf Pack downing the Heels
- Leach > Kiffin
- JMU? WTH?
I hope to have my business running properly by next season so that I can take Saturday's off. Anyway, here's my Top 25!
Ray's Top 25
#25 South Carolina 8-4 Prev ~ Spencer Rattler has found his home I think. And he has another year if he wants it! The Gamecocks did the thing at Clemson.
#24 Louisville 7-5 Prev #16 Haven't really been following these guys this season. They started L-W-L-W-L-W and finished L-W-L.
#23 Oregon State 9-3 Prev ~ Crazy comeback by the Beavers! I'm surprised that Oregon couldn't hold on.
#22 UCLA 9-3 Prev #24 DTR is an amazing athlete and it saddens me to know that this stalwart of the Pac 10 is joining the B1G. It's all about the TV money now.
#21 Penn State 10-2 Prev ~ A very understated 10 win season for coach Franklin and the Nittany Lions.
#20 Ole Miss 8-4 Prev #19 I thought I saw Kiffin was getting an extension. I think that's a good thing even with the sort of up and down seasons he's had. The Rebs need this consistency.
#19 Notre Dame 8-4 Prev #14 After the way the season started for the Irish you have to view this year as a major win for the program. Tough loss, but watch out next year!
#18 Mississippi State 8-4 Prev #/ Mike Leach for president! If the Bulldogs are content with 8-4 seasons with the occasional 10-2 thrown in, they have their man!
#17 NC State 8-4 Prev #22 Beating your in-state rival is always a huge win. I think we're not far from seeing the Pack contest for conference champ.
#16 Washington 10-2 Prev #25 Cannot deny that I'm pleased to see my Huskies doing so well finally. It's been a minute! Too bad they got hosed by a terrible tie breaking system.
#15 Utah 9-3 Prev #13 The Utes are lucky to be in the 'ship vs USC. What a ridiculous tie breaking system. I mean, at some point overall record should matter in tie breaks?
#14 Texas Tech 7-5 Prev #15 It's all about who you beat! The Red Raiders have beaten Texas and Oklahoma for the first time ever. The UT win helps them a lot.
#13 Ohio State 11-1 Prev #8 What? They Beat ND while the Irish were searching for an identity and then got killed by the only other decent team they played.
#12 LSU 9-3 Prev #7 A&M? Really? Still, I do think Kelly is a good fit there. Give him a couple of years.
#11 Oregon 9-3 Prev #11 The Pac 12 is an unforgiving mistress. No cupcake (FCS) out-of-conference games, and no mercy from rivals!
#10 Michigan 12-0 Prev #17 Big jump with that huge win in CBus, but will it translate into a win in the playoff...er, invitational?
#9 Florida State 9-3 Prev #9 Gotta say, Norvell is doing a great job in Tallahassee. Those 3 losses in a row hurt, but big wins matter!
#8 USC 11-1 Prev #12 At the beginning of the season no one wanted to play OSU. That mantle has been passed to USC. The D is good enough, and Williams is the Heisman lock this season. HUGE win vs ND yesterday!
#7 Tennessee 10-2 Prev #10 An amazing season for the Vols. It's been several years of fits and starts, but it looks like they're on solid footing now.
#6 Clemson 10-2 Prev #3 I still believe that Dabo has failed to develop DJ properly (at all), but he keeps the Tigers moving forward. Still, that's an embarrassing loss at home to a mediocre South Carolina team.
#5 Texas 8-4 Prev #5 Can you imagine the freak out if Texas was ranked this high by voters? Funnily enough, there are 4 other polls with them at 6, including ESPN's FPI!
#4 Alabama 10-2 Prev #6 Obviously I'm not penalizing teams for playing FCS schools enough. I mean, Austin Peay before rivalry week should hurt more. Gotta look at the numbers.
#3 Kansas State 9-3 Prev #4 So weird. Yeah, the Tulane loss hurt, but losing to TCU doesn't hurt at all and the Texas loss is not very damaging at all. And their wins are pretty darn good!
#2 Georgia 12-0 Prev #2 Well, talk about flying under the radar. UGA only drew attention when they looked like they might lose. Zero excitement other than that, just marching through the South like...well, you know.
#1 TCU 12-0 Prev #1 At least the Horny Ones didn't give it away in the first half this week, eh?
So, how did our favorite voters do this week?
I think it's pretty clear that the voters are still stuck on overall record.
Still, I'm surprised that the SEC is ranked properly while the Big 12 is so badly under represented and the B1G so over represented.
Anyway, I hope you all had a great weekend! Army-Navy coming up - GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!
