Oh yeah, expanding the playoff would be awful. None of those "other" teams can beat Bama/UGA/Clemson/OSU, right?
I think that this Saturday was a lot of fun to watch (what I got to see) and a great argument for expansion (and yes, 12 is stupid and evidence that the committee is beholden to the good ol' boys network).
The Bama loss didn't surprise me except at the very, very end. I didn't really think Tennessee could pull that off.
The USC loss did surprise me, even though I knew Utah was still a good football team. Riley has learned that not playing defense only flies in the Big 12!
UM is simply steamrolling teams, but those teams all suck so it doesn't matter.
OSU didn't even play and still lost face when the Irish lost to a 1-4 Stanford.
Oregon seems to have pulled out of their funk.
D.J. Uiagalelei looks much more like a confident QB and Clemson just keeps winning ugly.
Ole Miss is quietly beating folks with very little drama
Syracuse.
I won't say that TCU is over Patterson leaving, but they are finding ways to win over good teams.
So yeah, who needs an expanded playoff? What was your favorite game this weekend?
Ray's Top 25
#25 Prev: / UCF 5-1 Look who's back! The Knights stomped Temple this week.
#24 Prev: / Michigan 7-0 Yes, the Wolverines are 7-0. The teams they've beaten are so bad (I have PSU at 27) that they only just now cracked the top 25.
#23 Prev: 13 Oregon 5-1 How do the Ducks drop 10 spots without playing? The teams they've beaten just got worse this weekend and so their points dropped. This adds up to Oregon being left behind.
#22 Prev: 21 Texas Tech 3-3 Um...what? So weird. But, if the teams that beat you are supposed to beat you, you shouldn't be punished.
#21 Prev: 22 Tulane 6-1 The GREEN WAVE! No real wins of note, but the system doesn't lie.
#20 Prev: 7 Mississippi State 5-2 Losing to UK wasn't on the menu for Leach and company, but here we are.
#19 Prev: 15 LSU 5-2 The Tigers seem to be trying to claw back closer to the Burreaux level of play. Good win over a decent #29 Florida.
#18 Prev: 9 Florida State 4-3 Losing to #1 Clemson probably wasn't fun, but at least it wasn't a blowout?
#17 Prev: 3 Kansas 5-2 Anyone else think that Oklahoma waited a week too long to get up for a game? Sorry, Jayhawks.
#16 Prev: 4 OSU 6-0 Dropping 12 spots without playing? See Oregon.
#15 Prev: / Utah 5-2 The Utes jumped up with that crazy win over USC at home.
#14 Prev: 23 Oklahoma State 5-1 These are the moves that confuse me even though I know how it works. Lose and move up due to their competition having a good weekend. See: Oregon and OSU in reverse.
#13 Prev: 5 Wake Forest 5-1 We are getting into the part of the season where body of work really matters. Beat good teams, get rewarded.
#12 Prev: 16 UCLA 6-0 Another bye week move up.
#11 Prev: 19 NC State 5-2 Haven't seen them play yet, but they've been competitive for the past few seasons.
#10 Prev: 25 Texas 5-2 Yeah, yeah, I know. What do you want me to tell you? The system is the system and it truly doesn't care what you (or I) believe. Texas pulled out a close one over Iowa State.
#9 Prev: 11 USC 6-1 Lose and move up does seem wrong, but remember we're looking at the big picture here.
#8 Prev: 10 Kansas State 5-1 I do kind of wonder how the Big 12 is going to shake out this season.
#7 Prev: 8 Ole Miss 7-0 Quiet Kiffin. Who'd have thunk it? The Rbs hung a bunch of points on Auburn on Saturday.
#6 Prev: 6 Georgia 7-0 Ooooh, they beat Vandy. OK. Whatever.
#5 Prev: 2 Alabama 6-1 That was a fun 2nd half to watch, gotta say. And Saban's post game was on point: win out and they're in.
#4 Prev: 18 Syracuse 6-0 'Cuse! So weird, and a huge leap up after whooping NC State.
#3 Prev: 24 TCU 6-0 I did not see this coming. Moving up 21 spots after beating a good OK State is evidence of how important those 2nd and 3rd level points are.
#2 Prev: 12 Tennessee 6-0 Any doubts? They've done the work and deserve the reward.
#1 Prev: 1 Clemson 7-0 Winning ugly is still winning, and DJ is looking better and more comfortable.
Thoughts?
Ray vs the AP
As you can see, we're all over the place at this point. But let me show you the fickleness of the voters. Below is every team that has been in the AP top 25 this season:
43 teams, for those of you keeping score. Another reason rankings prior to week 6 really are useless, even mine. Not enough information to draw reasonable conclusions or for mathematical systems to work.
Take from it what you will, I just find it interesting.
